Career Ready is extremely professional and a great example of effective altruism

The Career Ready programme gives students the confidence and skills to break through their own self imposed glass ceilings and raise their aspirations to a higher level.

Who are you?

My name is Ian Ferguson, I’m Property Claims Director at Aviva plc. I am former Chair of the Perth and Kinross LAB and in 2016 I was awarded Volunteer of the Year.

Why did you get involved in Career Ready?

Career Ready is extremely professional and a great example of effective altruism.

I can see myself in the students and wish I had had the chance of a mentor when I was in their shoes.

What has been your most important thing you’ve done with Career Ready?

The most important thing I’ve done is to encourage Perth & Kinross Council to come on board. They have been essential to making the programme work with the local schools.

Why would you recommend supporting Career Ready to other employers?

I would say to other employers, for every student we help, we help our own organisations. Giving something back to the next generation is a massively positive experience for mentors and the wider organisation.

The Career Ready programme gives students the confidence and skills to break through their own self imposed glass ceilings and raise their aspirations to a higher level.

How does it feel to be recognised as Volunteer of the Year?

There are so many great people supporting Career Ready in Perth & Kinross and I feel I am collecting this on their behalf.
