Career Ready will give you the edge over the competition.
Who are you?
My name is Joe Rudd and I’m a gradaute of Prior Pursglove College. I finished the Career Ready programme in 2015, after working with a Santander mentor for a year and completing a Santander internship.
What have you been doing since finishing the programme?
When I finished college I had a part time job with Santander, which came about because of my internship. Over the summer I had been looking for jobs as the cost of university didn’t appeal to me.
I secured an apprenticehip at Nestle, where I currently work, as a management accountant supporting the procurement buying teams. I’m also completing my CIMA studies with Kaplan with Nestle’s support.
What has been your proudest acheivement so far?
Organising the data necessary for our fair trade audit. This assesses the sustainability commitments we make to buying Fair Trade cocoa to go into our chocolate. If we fail the audit, we could face disciplinary action.
Thankfully, we didn’t and my collaboration with various stakeholders across Nestlé and my ability to produce documentation to standardise the process for future audits was recognised by the CFO.
How did Career Ready help you?
Without Career Ready I would not be able to give the cliché answer which is that I would not be where I am today without the programme!
My internship was one of the best stepping-stones into a career. It gave me on the job experience that I could take to my next place of work. The programme gave me the best knowledge of how to have a successful job interview, teaching you techniques and CV building skills. Without this I don’t think I would not have successfully gained my apprenticeship with Nestlé, which saw over 200 applicants for the two positions on offer.
I believe this to be one of the best programmes out there if you want to feel prepared for work. Whether you are going straight into a job or go to uni, Career Ready will give you the edge over the competition.
