Career Ready is a great way to engage with the local labour market.
Who are you?
My name is Vickie Taylor and I’m the Coordinator of the Career Ready at Rodillian Academy. I am also the North East and Yorkshire & Humber winner of the Santander Employability Champion Award 2017.
What does your role involve?
The day-to-day management of the programme, including overseeing the student experience, coordinating trips and masterclasses and maintaining relationships with employers and volunteers.
What are the benefits for students?
There are so many! The programme helps them to build networks, develop key skills and grow in confidence. It provides them with support and the knowledge to make informed choices about their future, and improves their future outcomes.
What do you find rewarding?
Seeing students develop skills, grow in confidence and become prepared for post-18 life. Getting positive feedback from students, volunteers and employers makes it worth it.
Why would you recommend working with Career Ready?
The support at a regional and national level is fantastic. Our students flourish on the programme but it can also benefit all post-16 students. Career Ready is a great way to engage with the local labour market.
What are you future plans for the programme?
To grow – to increase the number of students and supporters we have.
How do you feel to be a Santander winner?
It’s a wonderful recognition of the work myself and the academy have undertaken. The award has also helped raise the profile of Career Ready in the Academy.
