Career Ready is campaigning to increase the number of businesses offering 140 hour internships to students. We want to work with even more businesses to boost social mobility, bridge the skills gap and develop their talent pipeline.
Why our campaign matters
Career Ready’s 140 hours campaign shows the transformational impact of paid internships of four weeks on young people aged 16-19. We’re working with businesses to open up a world of opportunity to young people who have the potential to succeed but lack the networks, role models and confidence of their wealthier peers.
We believe that a 140 hour internship benefits young people by enabling them to:
- work as part of a team
- complete a project
- build confidence in the workplace.
A 140 internship also benefits employers by providing:
- early management experience for staff
- fresh perspectives on, and new customers for, services and products
- an effective testing ground for potential recruits to higher level apprenticeships.
