Let’s Do Business events leave legacy of success

The final roadshow in the Let’s Do Business series, held in partnership with the National Careers Service, took place on Thursday 28 January in Leeds, almost exactly a year after the first event in Liverpool. 

The roadshows, which aimed to bring schools and colleges together with employers across their region to discuss how they could work together, were held in six locations across England. More than 650 people attended the events, making valuable connections and gaining ideas and inspiration on how they can support their local young people to take advantage of the career opportunities available.

Anne Spackman, Chief Executive of Career Ready, said: “When we initially discussed the idea for the roadshows with the Skills Funding Agency we had no idea of we would hit our target of 75 people per event. After the huge success of our launch event in Liverpool the series went from strength-to-strength and with the support of the SFA, LEPs, local authorities and the National Careers Service’s partners in each area we were able to engage with a wide range of employers and schools, including Special Educational Needs schools.

“We have been hearing about the impact that these roadshows have had locally, with the format being repeated in smaller towns and schools linking up with local businesses. We hope that young people in each of these six regions can continue to benefit from direct contact with employers and the schools and colleges can forge meaningful, sustainable links with employers, particularly in local economic growth sectors.”

Carolyn Savage, Head of Partnerships at the Skills Funding Agency, said: “Career Ready have been a pleasure to work with throughout the last year. Together we have built on the feedback we’ve received after each event, adapting the roadshows to make them as impactful and useful as possible for everyone attending. One of the key aims of the series was to build sustainable relationships and contacts so that we could leave a legacy, rather than delivering a one off event. From the feedback we’ve received so far it’s clear that many delegates have developed long-term partnerships to inspire young people.”
