Let’s Do Business roadshows to launch in Liverpool

Career Ready has partnered with the National Careers Service to launch a series of roadshows called Let’s Do Business, with the first event scheduled forThursday 15 January 2015 at Merseytravel in Liverpool. The events will provide an opportunity for schools to meet with employers in the city who are keen to engage with them and their students.

The Let’s Do Business roadshows will provide information about the Inspiration Agenda, showcase the impact of business engagement, and demonstrate how the National Careers Service and their new contract partners can help make that happen.

Latest guidance from the Department for Education emphasises the need for schools and employers to work together “to inspire young people about the world of work, opening their eyes to the range of learning and career opportunities that are open to them.”

Ofsted has also emphasised the importance of “high-quality impartial careers education, information, advice and guidance” and highlights destination data for those leaving sixth form as a key measure of success.

The roadshows will support Head Teachers to understand what opportunities are available to work with local and national businesses, as well as what services are offered by the National Careers Service and their contract partners. They will also hear from teachers and businesses who are already engaged through the Career Ready programme, about how an employer engagement programme can be incorporated into the curriculum and budget, and how it can be embedded within the school to support students across all year groups.

Anne Spackman, Executive Director of Career Ready, said: “We work with more than 150 schools and colleges across the UK and our experience tells us that this model is a win-win for both schools and employers. Giving students direct experience of the world of work helps them develop the experience and skills they need to be able to perform more effectively in the wider world. While on the other side, employers benefit from having access to a recruitment pipeline of young, talented, ambitious, local people.

“These events will provide a fantastic opportunity for Head Teachers and employers to meet and discuss activities they can get started on together, straight away.”

There will be a series of six Let’s Do Business events held across the UK throughout 2015, with other venues to include Birmingham, Teesside, London and Manchester.
