Students and staff at Cirencester Sixth Form College were joined by leading employers on Thursday 26 February for the opening of their new Santander Enterprise Room.
The room has been created with the £5,000 prize money that the College received for winning the Santander Career Academy of the Year Award in 2014. Cirencester Sixth Form College was judged the national winner from more than 170 schools and colleges in recognition of the quality of provision of their Career Ready programme.
Cirencester Sixth Form College started working with Career Ready over ten years ago. The Santander Enterprise Room is used to further the College’s programme by offering students a base to work from when they are with employers, mentors or undertaking group projects.
The room is split into three zones: one emulating office workstations, kitted with laptops; the second equipped with a boardroom-style table, a TV and conference calling facilities; the third zone is an informal area with comfortable seating and coffee table to support review meetings and discussions with mentors.
Simon Page, Regional Manager for Career Ready commented: “Receiving last year’s Santander Career Academy of the Year award was fantastic recognition of the very impressive programme at Cirencester College and I am delighted to see them going from strength-to-strength, using the award funding to provide some exciting new facilities for their students.
“The Santander Enterprise Room will allow students to gain an understanding of the types of environment and equipment they are likely to be using in their future careers, and it will help encourage them to develop some of the behaviours and attitudes expected in the workplace.”
Anoushka Brown, CSR Partnerships Manager at Santander, who officially opened the room said: “We are very proud of our partnership with Career Ready which sees us supporting young people around the country to reach their potential and gain vital employability skills. Cirencester College provides an excellent Career Ready programme for their students and the Santander Enterprise Room will further enhance this by providing a dedicated space for students to build their skills as they prepare for the world of work.”
