The impact on our young people's development has been transformational. This is a great example of how employers can successfully contribute to the senior phase of a Curriculum for Excellence.
Karen Prophet, Senior Education Manager, Edinburgh City Council
Before I joined Career Ready I had little motivation and thought the things I wanted in life would come to me. I was going through a tough time, lacked motivation and was considering dropping out of school. Now I plan to study social sciences and start a charity of my own. They motivated me to become the best I can be.
Morven Petrie, Career Ready student, Glasgow
At Career Ready, we are always happy to be judged on the outcomes of our programme. We have over a decade of experience delivering initiatives that work.
School Leaver Destination results for 2013 and 2014 show that 97% of Career Ready students in Scotland went on to positive destinations with 25% in employment, 54% in Higher Education and 21% in Further Education.
But the outcomes beyond the statistics are the ones that have the greatest impact.
There is nothing quite like seeing the transformation in confidence, attitude and outlook that a Career Ready course can bring.
Schools report that partnering with Career Ready allows them to be forward thinking, raises their standing in the local community, allows them to meet Education Scotland requirements and assist with the implementation and delivery of ‘Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce’ recommendations..
Running a Career Ready programme improves your links with local and national employers who actively want to engage with you, and allows you to build a programme of sustainable employer engagement.
A Career Ready programme can have positive effects in your school far beyond the students who take part. Students’ perceptions of what they can achieve change as they see their older peers progress from education to work. Their aspirations are raised as they see what students just like them can achieve.
Ultimately, that’s the outcome we are always striving for.
